Cutting service
WARNING
Before submitting any request for cutting services, please read the warning below carefully.
As a precision cutter, my philosophy is to highlight the beauty of the stone by prioritizing its aesthetics over its weight. In this sense, I always prioritize obtaining the most magnificent stone possible before trying to retain as much weight as possible. However, this does not prevent me from advising you on the optimal cut so that you get a product that is both aesthetic and maximizes the rough stone you possess. If these conditions suit you, then I will be happy to work with you on your project!
Why choose an independent cutter rather than a commercial cutter?
If you take the time to go to a jeweler and look at the stones offered under a magnifying glass, you will quickly realize that the quality of the stone, which looked acceptable at first glance, is not optimal, with a quick cut and often mediocre polishing. As an independent cutter, I offer a stone with almost perfect geometry and polishing performed with 60000 grit and more, optimizing the brilliance of the stone. When placed side by side, the lack of quality of a jewelry stone, compared to a stone cut in my workshop, is easily observable.
What happens in case of breakage?
Rough stones are natural products that contain imperfections such as faults that can cause unintentional breakage during faceting. If this happens, I will contact the client immediately to determine the course of action. Following this discussion, several options will be possible:
Option 1: Abandonment of the cut. In this case, the remnants will be returned to the client with free shipping (deposit not refunded).
Option 2: Continuation of the cut. If it is possible to continue the cut, the time spent on the stone up to the moment of breakage would be billed at 50%.
What weight loss should I expect after cutting a rough stone?
Generally, when cutting, one should expect to lose about 75% of the weight of the rough stone. This result can obviously vary with the choice of shape and/or cut chosen by the client.
Please take these potential risks into consideration before proceeding with a cutting service submission.
PRICING
Pre-cutting consultations are free. It is during these consultations that I will be able to assess whether I can cut your stone. It is always preferable for me to see the stone in person so that I can better advise you on the possibilities available for cutting (shipping is at the client's expense). However, it is always possible to proceed virtually by sending photos by email, but in this case, no guarantee will be given as to the estimate until the stone is in my hands and I can examine it. If you choose this second option, several photos from different angles will be required. These photos should preferably be taken with natural light if the stone has good transparency. If the stone is opaque, you will need to use a strong light source (such as a cell phone) placed under the stone, to bring out its color and allow me to see through it. You can send the photos taken, along with as much information as possible (type of stone, origin, dimensions, weight) to the following email address: info@facetart.com
A minimum deposit of $50 (non-refundable and credited to the final invoice) will be required before any cutting process begins. However, it is possible that the deposit may be increased if you do not have the desired rough stone and I have to obtain it for you. In this case, the stone will come from one of my many international distributors.
The minimum price for stone cutting is $100 per stone and $75 for repolishing. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information about your project.
PRODUCTION TIMES
Please allow 2 to 12 weeks for cutting services, depending on demand. A more precise estimate of the required time will be provided upon submission.
PAYMENT TERMS
Once the stone cutting is complete, an invoice will be sent to you by email. The amount of this invoice will correspond to what remains for you to pay for the cutting service (the deposit will have been previously deducted from the total due). From the date you receive the invoice, you will have 30 days to pay the amount due. After this period, in case of non-payment, Facet'Art reserves the right to offer the cut stone for sale on its website.
